ShapeMeUp
Fitness Platform
A dual-sided mobile app connecting fitness coaches with clients — built from scratch through deep user research during the pandemic when people lost access to gyms and in-person coaching.
01 — Overview
Problem & Solution
The Problem
Since the pandemic began, people lost access to gyms and their daily physical routines. Fitness coaches found themselves managing clients through scattered text messages, spreadsheets, and disconnected apps — with no way to track payments, schedule appointments, or send personalised plans efficiently. Clients didn't know where to find reliable workout and diet guidance tailored to their specific goals.
The Solution
ShapeMeUp brings everything into one place. Coaches get a dashboard to manage clients, set appointments, send payment reminders, and deliver custom workout and diet plans at scale. Clients see their daily goals, warm-ups, workouts, and meal plans in a single streamlined view — with built-in messaging to stay connected with their coach without switching apps.

04 — Tools & Methods
What Was Used
Industry-standard tools applied across every phase — from user interviews and journey mapping through to hi-fi prototype and usability testing.
Design & Prototyping
🎨
Figma
Primary tool for all wireframe versions, component design, colour system, hi-fi screens, and the interactive prototype shared for usability testing.
📐
Auto-Layout & Components
Figma's auto-layout and shared component library used to maintain consistency across the dual coach and client flows — 6 wireframe iterations per screen.
Research & Strategy
🗺️
Miro
Customer journey mapping for both coach and client flows, affinity diagramming from interview notes, SWOT analysis, and competitor benchmarking boards.
🎤
User Interviews
Structured 1-on-1 sessions with practicing fitness coaches and active clients to surface real pain points before any design work began.
Usability Testing
🧪
Maze
Unmoderated task-flow testing to measure completion rates and identify friction points — generated the 87% task completion benchmark across 5 participants.
💬
Moderated Lo-Fi Testing
In-person low-fidelity sessions with 3 clients and 2 coaches — observed live hesitations and incorrect taps that drove the 4 core design iterations.
Design Process
🔄
Design Thinking
Full empathise → define → ideate → prototype → test cycle across 12 weeks. Dual-persona approach kept coach and client needs balanced throughout every decision.
🧭
Journey Mapping
End-to-end experience mapped from client intake through to ongoing weekly sessions — identified the two highest-friction moments that shaped the entire navigation model.
